Charles Rennie Mackintosh (Toshie to his friends) was born in Glasgow on the 7th June 1868. He attended Glasgow School of Art and there he was introduced to Margaret Macdonald by Fra Newberry, the pioneering director of the school, who introduced them to Symbolist Art.
